Small change, big change
How everyday shopping cleaned up Santa Clara’s streets - one bag at a time.

When Dave Gee and his team at Filth Fighters, a local volunteer cleanup crew, joined Ev’ryday, they never imagined they’d raise over $3,000 just by shopping for groceries, home supplies - even pizza.
“I told the team, ‘Shop as you normally do - just pick our cause on Ev’ryday and watch the funds come in.’” Dave laughs. “Three months later, we had enough to tackle three major sites we’d struggled to clean for years.”
That $3,000 has paid for tools, gloves and trash pickup to clear Pine Street underpass, the old freight lot on Hillsdale and parts of Meadow Park. Locals are thrilled.
“I used to walk my dog through piles of junk,” says Angela Lopez, who lives near Meadow Park. “Now, my kids ride their bikes down a clean path. It’s incredible that just their shopping paid for this.”
For the Filth Fighters, it’s simple: more everyday shopping, more spotless streets. Dave adds, “Our volunteers love knowing they’re helping twice - once with their time and again with their shopping. It’s the easiest money we’ve ever raised.”
